Dark Circles Under the Eyes
As a person ages the skin covering your eyelids and the fat below thins out, which may cause the underlying blood vessels to become more apparent. This gives the lower eyelids a darker appearance and to appear “hollowed-out”. It's also possible that thin eyelids can be inherited. Dark eyelids can also be caused from swelling in your lower eyelids. When you're lying down, gravity causes fluid to collect in your lower eyelids, which may create shadows below your eyes.
There are a variety of treatments for this condition in order to optimize results. Proper medical grade skincare products can also diminish dark circles and improve the skin's texture.
Often in addition to dark circles under the eyes there is an excess of skin. This can be treated with a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, where the excess skin is surgically removed. The scar is hidden in the skin fold in the eyelid and becomes imperceptible, and the results are very impressive.
