Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is often the simplest surgical procedure to provide a more rested and refreshed look to the face. As we age, the skin on the upper and lower eyelids tends to stretch and sag. Sometimes the upper eyelid skin hangs over and actually rests on the edge of the eyelid, resulting in the inability to wear makeup, and in extreme cases, difficulty with peripheral vision.

Upper eyelid surgery is designed to correct this problem. It is usually performed in our office, although when it is combined with other procedures, sedation may be required, necessitating a hospital surgery. The incision is hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid and the excess skin (and any excess fat) is removed. The sutures are usually removed approximately five days after the procedure and most people return to their usual activities at that time. Vigorous activity should not be resumed for approximately three weeks after the surgery.

Bruising and swelling tend to be minimal and well-hidden by makeup 10-14 days following surgery.
