Mole Removal
Skin cancer rates in the United States continue to rise. As a precaution, you should always have any moles, unusual skin blemishes or irregular spots that appear on your face or body examined by an expert. If you think any skin lesions are changing in size, shape or colo, are itching or bleeding, or are becoming irregular, then it is even more important to have a consultation with a qualified physician.
It is important to remember the "ABCDs" of skin lesions: Asymmetry, Borders (irregular or smooth), Consistency or Change (even or uneven pigment), and Diameter (changing or remaining the same). Any skin sites with these concerns certainly require removal. Lesions (spots) that have not healed over a six-week period of time also may require removal and biopsy for diagnosis. Although these types of lesions tend not to be life threatening, they do need to be removed to prevent the need for more extensive surgery later.
Professional screening methods often result in earlier diagnosis and usually less invasive treatment of potentially serious conditions such as melanoma or basal cell carcinoma. Our team of cosmetic/plastic surgeons can remove both cosmetic and suspicious skin lesions, and work with area labs to properly screen for skin cancer. If further treatment is required, our surgeons are qualified to treat the problem in as minimally invasive a manner as possible, although significant surgical intervention may be required in some cases.
Moles, cysts and skin tags are extremely common on the face and other parts of the body. They can be cosmetically embarrassing, as well as cause problems when applying make-up, shaving or changing clothes.
Moles, cysts, skin lesions and skin tags can all be safely removed with an in-office, local anesthesia procedure that takes about 20-30 minutes. Scarring is minimal in most cases. You can resume normal activities immediately afterward. When stitches are necessary, our experienced surgeons work carefully to give you the best possible cosmetic outcome.
